PASSPORT / EXCEL
Passport OCR: frequently asked questions
From your first scan to your final spreadsheet.
How do I convert a passport to Excel?
Preview up to five passports without signing in. Choose a JPG, PNG or PDF showing the passport identity page. The browser reads the MRZ, you review the fields, then choose Excel, CSV or JSON. Sign in to export personal previews using your daily allowance or credits. You can try fictional samples before using your own documents.
Can I extract passport data from a PDF?
Yes. PDF pages are rendered on your device before OCR. Use one passport per page. This beta accepts up to 10 pages/images in a batch and 15 MB per source file. Protected or damaged PDFs may need to be re-exported first.
What data does passport OCR read?
The standard review includes full name, passport number, nationality code, date of birth, sex and expiry date. Premium adds an editable spreadsheet workspace with custom columns. Fields absent from the MRZ cannot reliably be extracted by this reader.
Why do I still need to check the results?
Blur, glare, small print and rotation can cause mistakes. A check digit can detect some errors, but names are not protected by MRZ checksums. Use a sharp, upright image with both MRZ lines visible. This is transcription software, not identity verification.
Are my passport files uploaded?
The current OCR and export flow runs in your browser. Passport files and extracted rows are not sent to our server. Account login and payments use separate network requests. Downloaded exports remain on your device.
Which export format should I use?
Excel is convenient for spreadsheet work and preserves passport numbers as text. CSV works with many systems, but import number columns as text to keep leading zeros. JSON is useful for structured data workflows.
Do credit packs include Premium?
No. Credit packs and Premium workspace access are separate. The current checkout is a sandbox: test purchases do not charge real money. Signed-in accounts receive 10 free scans per day, resetting at midnight Malaysia time. After that, the app uses available credits. Each PDF page or image counts as one scan. Samples and re-reading a successful row in the same batch do not cost another scan. Guest previews are counted only when exported. For signed-in scans, failed or cancelled reads return their allowance when the app can reach the server. Closing the page during a scan may prevent that return.
Does Premium mean unlimited scans?
The planned Premium package includes 1,000 scans per billing month and the editable workspace. It is not unlimited. A fictional sample workspace is available to everyone.
